History of Olive Garden Restaurant
Olive Garden is an American casual dining restaurant chain specializing in Italian-American cuisine.
The company began as a small family-owned Italian restaurant called The Garden of Eden, founded in Greensboro, North Carolina, United States, by businessman Steve Carano and his mother Angela Carano in 1982. It became a public company in 1995 and the name was subsequently changed to Olive Garden to reflect its growing presence outside North Carolina. The restaurant group has 1,986 locations worldwide including 183 Olive Garden restaurants owned by Darden Restaurants Inc.. In October 2005 there were 212 restaurants; this had grown to 1,976 by 2011. In 2015 Darden reported over 2200 locations globally with approximately 2700 employees per year spending nearly $ million (M) in marketing expenses.
Frederick Douglas (FD) Devall founded the predecessor of today’s Olive Garden after he purchased a home in Ocala, Florida. He commissioned construction for an 800-square-foot (74 m2) house with 1,000 feet (300 m) of verandas and moved it to Lot 3 Block 59 Coco Plum on December 20, 1930. In 1971 his grandchildren opened a restaurant called The Garden Gate Café in downtown Gainesville, Florida where they served Italian food created from family recipes handed down from generation to generation. Ten years later students at the local college asked them for a larger venue to accommodate them so the building housing The Garden Gate Cafe was turned into a mall which became known as University Corners. The restaurant was renamed Olive Garden after the daughter of Frederick Douglas, Pamela Devall, found an olive tree growing in her yard and brought it into the house as a potted plant. However the name ‘Olive Garden’ is used since they thought their customers might be confused with “The Garden Gate”.
By 2004 sales at Olive Garden restaurants had reached $3.3 billion (US), making it the best-performing unit within Darden Restaurants Inc.. Its popularity has been attributed to its Italian cuisine menu which consists primarily of various types of pasta, grilled meat and vegetable entrees, salad, bread sticks (“breadsticks”) and wine. All main courses are typically accompanied by freshly grated Parmesan cheese and freshly baked garlic breadsticks. Olive Garden has continued to experience significant growth in sales and customer traffic since its founding, owing much of it to their advertising efforts which included a 2004 partnership with NASCAR.
Olive Garden provides lunch menus for Darden’s other chains including Bahama Breeze, Longhorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille and Seasons 52. In addition, there are non-alcoholic beverages that include Italian Ices from the company’s Italian branch restaurant called Brio Tuscan Grill.

Olive Garden announced a special menu for 2012. As of March 9, 2012, the currently advertised menu offers an appetizer called “Tour of Italy” and an entree called “Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara.”
Other items that have recently been offered include “Tuscan Garlic-Butter Shrimp,” a blend of shrimp with garlic-butter sauce served with roasted potatoes;
“Pollo Rosa Maria,” boneless chicken breast stuffed with spinach and mozzarella cheese in a mushroom sauce; “Breadsticks Rustica,” baked breadsticks filled with five Italian cheeses, sun dried tomatoes and pepperoni; and seafood dishes such as “Linguine Frutti di Mare” (linguine pasta with shrimp, mussels and clam in a tomato-saffron sauce), “Shrimp Scampi,” “Seared Shrimp Diavolo,” and “Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo.”
Olive Garden’s specialties include fettuccini alfredo with chicken or shrimp, spaghetti with meatballs or Italian sausage, lasagna with meat sauce or vegetarian style, grilled salmon on a bed of farfalle pasta in a light cream sauce, pizza topped with cheese and pepperoni, grilled beef medallions over a portobello mushroom risotto served in a marsala sauce.
In addition to the regular menu that offers traditional Italian dishes such as baked ziti and ravioli, Olive Garden makes an effort to maintain a variety of Italian-American dishes. Their “Tour of Italy” appetizer has been on the menu since 1987. It includes an order of minestrone soup, fettuccine alfredo with chicken or shrimp, and spaghetti with meat sauce. The entree was served with mixed vegetables in tomato sauce and garlic breadsticks! The best dish in Olive Garden Restaurant is the minestrone soup. It is prepared with fresh tomatoes, onion, celery and carrots. Its spicy flavour makes it very appetizing to its customers.
Some special dish in Olive Garden Menu
The dish itself originates from cooking techniques dating as far back as 4500 BC. It was made with fried chicken cutlets topped with marinara sauce and cheese.
Olive Garden’s Chicken Parmesan consists of two breaded chicken cutlets with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese on top. This is served on a bed of Angel Hair Pasta along with a side salad dressed with their house vinaigrette dressing and warm garlic breadsticks that are brushed with butter and sprinkled generously with Parmesan cheese.

Zeppoli – Olive Garden Menu
Zeppole [Italian pronunciation: [ˈtʃeppoli] ] are Neapolitan fried pastries , a popular street food in Naples and throughout Italy . Similar to bomboloni , traditional zeppole do not contain any filling, but may be filled with whipped cream, chocolate, fruit jams , Nutella or other similar pastes.
More precisely, Zeppoli are cornetto pizzati , which literally means “cut-up cake” in Italian. Zeppola is also called zeppula.
Zeppoli can be filled with cream instead of the traditional orange blossom water . They are often eaten at Carnevale time (a celebration that happens at Carnival time), where they are stuffed with different kinds of creams depending on families’ requests. These may include pistachio ice cream , nocciola ice cream (hazelnut), nutella hazelnut paste, vanilla gelato, frutti di bosco sorbetto (fruit mixed sorbet), or even cannoli cream.
It looks like lasagna, but instead of pasta you have eggplant slices stacked with cheese and sauce. And while the taste of this dish is nothing short of incredible (if prepared correctly), world famous food critic and gourmand extraordinaire Egon Ronay described the first time he ate an eggplant parmesan:
“It turned out to be the most unpleasant experience. The bitter, rubbery flesh of the eggplant was totally unlike any vegetable I had ever tasted.”
Chicken and Shrimp Carbonara
They cook spaghetti in olive oil and then boil it with eggs, pancetta, and cream before mixing it up with cheese and chicken or shrimp. Yes, these are undoubtedly a trip into the realms of high cholesterol, but man is Carbonara an exquisite pasta dish. We hope only that the white meat and the omega 3 fatty acids in the shrimp help to counterbalance all the egg yolk.
It is a calamari dish with a unique crispy coating on its outside prepared in olive oil and herbs and spices according to your taste preferences. Well, aside from its appeal to us customers, calamari is also known as versatile seafood. Aside from frying it in olive oil, you could even prepare it grilled or baked which makes it more appealing for children and adults alike. Most restaurants serving this dish tend to offer many ways of cooking calamari aside from the basic frying method which still gives a special twist for this appetizer dish. In addition, they also offer calamari dishes with different toppings according to your preference such as salad, sandwich or even pizza
