Now what typically comes to our mind when thinking about Italian cuisine? Pasta, Pizza or Olive Oil… Well this article is dedicated to one particular dish not usually offered in Italian restaurants around here (at least I haven’t seen it). “Cacio e pepe” (which literally means cheese and pepper) is the name of an Italian pasta dish which is considered modern classic. It is very simple to make and consists of only 3 main ingredients (pasta, pecorino cheese and black pepper).

Pasta alla gricia is another pasta dish made with guanciale (cured meat prepared from pork jowl or cheeks), pecorino cheese, black pepper and no garlic which is very similar in presentation but uses different type of cured meat. So how did EAT restaurant Las Vegas come up with their own version? Well it’s interesting that this particular combination was suggested by a Spanish chef working in the kitchen.

THE BROKEN YOLK CAFE

THE BROKEN YOLK CAFE
THE BROKEN YOLK CAFE

is the only known restaurant in Nevada that allows patrons to bring in their own live chickens, in order that they might enjoy them cooked in any number of ways by the chef.

The Yolk is part of a growing movement within America’s dimwitted population’s attempt to open up the market for chickens as “pets”. Sensing another way to fleece money out of stupid people, some restaurants are letting people bring their own pet chickens into the dining area for no charge.

“It’s great,” said Harland Culp, holding his chicken before taking it home to be enjoyed with his family. “They’ve got like French fries and stuff here.”

No one at The Broken Yolk was available for comment on how the restaurant plans to handle the inevitable messes and health code violations that will come with allowing live chickens into the eating area.

Some experts say that this could be a sign of things to come, as more and more people try to find ways to circumvent the prohibitive costs of owning a pet.

“They’re not pets,” said veterinarian Dr. James Hargrave. “These are animals that need to be taken care of, and they produce waste just like any other animal. I don’t think restaurants are really prepared for the kind of commitment it takes to take care of these creatures.”

Others say that it’s simply a way for people to get closer to their food.

MR. MAMAS

is the newest dining establishment in Las Vegas. The Korean restaurant opened for business on May 28, 2011 at 9777 S Eastern Avenue, near Spring Mountain Rd. This is an excellent neighborhood with lots of Asian restaurants, dry cleaners and stores specializing in musical instruments just to name a few. As I was walking into Mr. Mamas my kids said it reminded them of the show “A Haunting” because everything looks old inside but they have new items added in their mix of antiques. Some people say it looks like the house from the movie Poltergeist (just by watching the preview anyway). I would suggest you go see it for yourself before its too late…

Las Vegas is already known for its preponderance of Asian food places and there are many more to come. However, the newest Korean restaurant in town has taken up residence at 9777 S Eastern Ave., on the east side of the street; technically, it’s on the southeast corner on Alta Dr.; it’s across from both The Guitar Center and G&B Electronics Inc. (which specializes in keyboards), next door to Mr. Mamas is V & K Market (a local establishment that sells lotions and other items). Before I tell you about this new eatery, let me mention some things about this part of town;
