Pickle Chips are a sweet blend of candy and pickled flavors, much like the taste of sweet pickles. They have been around for at least several decades.

The chips are about 1/10″ in thickness, much thicker than regular potato chips, but much thinner than “dill” chips. They are available in very small bags (about 1/4 cup), as well as larger bags (1-cup size). The large bag was formerly known as the “Family Bag.” Both sizes of bags come with their own flavor packets which you pour on top before munching. Not all stores carry both sizes of bags; I’ve seen them sold at 7-Eleven and Circle K convenience stores.

Fried Pickles Batter

• 2 cups flour

• 1 tablespoon baking powder

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 4 eggs, beaten well with a fork

• 3/4 cup milk (may need more)

• 5 small to medium dill pickle spears, sliced into small discs or “coins” (you can use larger pickles as long as they are sliced thin so the batter sticks). You may have leftover batter. If so, scramble some eggs and fry those up too! We never waste food in my house!

If your pickles are really strong you can brine them ahead of time in water and vinegar for an hour or so before slicing so the flavor mellows out.

Fries were not invented by the french. They were invented in belgium and called frieten, Frits for short. This is how they did it back then:

1) Take a pickle, slice it into thin slices with a bread knife or something similar

2) Put the pickle slices on top of cheese that has already been melted to form the cheese band around the edges of your plate

3) Cut each fry once at an angle so it forms two angled pieces after cutting both ends off. This might be easier if you use anything other than a regular cutter or spoon to cut them straight through. You can also make neat triangles if you are feeling artistic.
