How to make large knotless braids?

Knotless braids are fashionable, chic and elegant. One of the most popular knotless braids is double-sided braid that allows you to create some breathable space between the knots on each side. This adds volume and depth. To make this type of diagonal braid, follow these steps:

Step 1

Start by dividing your hair into two equal sections using elastic or transparent tape. You can do this by separating the hair strand by strand or simply place the right ponytail on top of left one. Make sure that both sections are even in size.

Step 2

Take an elastic band and secure it around both sections just above the ear level so that it stays out of your way while you work with other strands later on.

Step 3

Now take a strand of your hair from the right section and twist it away from you. The strand should be towards the outside of the head, not towards the center. The strand should start between 1/2 to 2/3 inches away from where you placed your elastic band around your hair. This will ensure that there’s enough room for creating elbow-knots later on as well as preventing those knots to show up near skin-level. This step is an important rule so please follow carefully!

Step 4

Repeat the same twisting movement with another strand but this time start between 1 and 2 inches away from previous twists (the first one should still be in place). Continue twisting each new strand by putting them away from the center of your head towards the outside. Make sure that all twists are going in the same direction and start between 1/2 to 2/3 inches away from each other.

Step 5

Repeat this twisting movement until you reach the end of your hair section (about an inch above your elastic band).

Step 6

Take 4 strands from both sections and simply braid them together like you would do with ordinary braids. You should now have a standard four-strand braid made out of 7 individual strands (4 + 3). It’s important to make sure that every strand has its own proper place without mixing up with others – this is how we create elbow-knots later on.

Step 7

When you reach the end of your hair, secure the bottom strand like you would do with usual braid. Leave a small section unsecured and without an elastic band around it for later use

Step 8

Take the second strand from the top and attach it to isolated section we’ve left out in step 7. Make sure that this strand is isolated as well by pushing away all other strands

Step 9

Now take another strand from same section and twist it away from your head following previous steps (1 to 2 inches away). Repeat the twisting movement several times until you get a nice looking bun: Secure this bun with elastic band so that no loose ends are hanging around. Repeat these steps on both sections of your hair but make sure that every new twist starts at least 1.5 inches away from the previous one. Also make sure that every strand also starts between 1/2 to 2/3 inches away from each other or you’ll end up with a big halo of messy braids around your head instead of nice looking twists:

Step 10

Use transparent elastic bands to secure all knots at the same distance apart from each other. This creates elbow-knots which are important for knotless braid’s sleek-looking appearance: Final look after secured all knots with clear band, cut off any excess hair and applied some leave-in conditioner if necessary. Repeat these steps on both sides of your head to complete this elegant knotless braid hairstyle!
